St. Stephen’s Church
Located on Court Road in Negombo, the church was declared an Archaeological Monument in 2011. The idea of building this church to fill the gap left by the loss of a church for Anglican Christians was devised by several Welshmen. At the request of the British government at the time, they acquired a suitable piece of land and the government provided a grant for the construction of the church. Construction is said to have begun in 1877 on a 17-perch plot of land in Rudd 2. In 1880 the church was opened for religious purposes.
