High temperatures have hampered the tea industry
Sri Lanka’s tea industry is still under pressure due to the prevailing dry weather. Most tea plantations in the central highlands are drying up due to lack of water. In addition, the country’s dry weather has severely affected the tea plantations. This situation is particularly unfavorable to smallholders. Accordingly, workers who worked in these estates daily have lost their income. Many of these employees are reportedly looking for other jobs. Plantation officials say tea industry will suffer a major setback if it stays dry for the next two months.
